De Beers Diamonds International Award

 

In 2000 Slim Barrett was awarded  the prestigious De Beers Diamonds International Award for excellence in the design of fine diamond jewellery.  The award winning piece was a chainmail bib necklace entitled, Cascade.  The necklace has 336-diamonds spectacle set in 18krt yellow gold .  Slim was the first Irishman to be a recipient of this prestigious award.

De Beers Diamonds International Award was won by Slim Barrett for Cascade necklace.  Hand-made in 18kt yellow gold with 336 brilliant cut spectacle set diamonds, with a total weight of 93.24cts

Martini Cosmopolitan Style Award 


 

In 1987 Slim won the Martini Cosmopolitan Style Award for excellence in design.

This image of the chainmail shoulder piece appeared in British Elle magazine as part of an editorial feature about Slim Barrett.

His chain mail jewellery often appears on stars, and in premium fashion magazines, advertising campaigns, in music promos and movies.

Slim Barrett donated the catwalk collection of John Galliano to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London

Baroque collection

 

In 1989 the Victoria & Albert museum purchased Slim Barrett’s Baroque collection - including the crown, necklace, earrings and brooch - for their permanent collections in London

Ulster Museum Collect Body Armour

 

In 1990 the Ulster Museum in Northern Ireland purchased Slim Barrett's East of Paris Waistcoat and his chainmmail Spiderweb bodice for their permanent collections.

 

 


Best British Accessory Designer

 

In 1987 Slim Barrett was nominated for the prestigious Best British Accessory Designer of the Year Award.


Best of British Design exhibition

 

In 1992 the British Design Council chose a Slim Barrett candelabrum and a set of candle sticks for the Best Of British Design exhibition in Le Centre Pompidou, Paris and in the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

 

 


Entry in Guinness Book of Records


 

Slim Barrett created a unique diamond encrusted tiara which entered him into the Guinness Book of Records 2000- being a  most expensive non-commissioned contemporary tiara - the piece was valued at £250,000 at the time.
